Melbourne: Battling poor form, Ricky Ponting also had an injury scare when he was struck on his right hand during the batting camp but Australian skipper Michael Clarke insisted that the senior batsman is "100 percent fine" for the opening Test against India from Monday.

"Ricky Ponting's preparations for the Boxing Day Test have been struck a painful blow, the batsman hit on the right hand by James Pattinson while batting in the nets at the MCG," reported 'Fox Sports'.

Ponting, who has been picked up for the opening Test despite a string of low scores in the past few months, left the nets to get his index finger examined but didn't seem all that troubled later.

"Ricky is 100 percent fine," Clarke said at a press conference on Wednesday when asked about Ponting's fitness status.

It is a make or break series for Ponting, who turned 37 on Monday, as the former captain is under severe pressure to either perform or make an exit from the team.
