Kolkata: After the FDI in retail and petrol price hike stirred up political dynamics of the Congress and Trinamool Congress, the latest issue of changing the name of Indira Bhavan into Nazrul Bhavan has emerged as a new bone of contention between the allies.

Condemning the Congress for two-day long protest against the state government’s decision of changing the name, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim on Friday accused the party of creating trouble in the working of government and on the other hand contributing in strengthening the CPM.

He further alleged the Congress of being anti-minorities. “The Congress only thinks of minorities when election comes. Once the elections are over, they choose to stay away from its agenda made before the polls,” he added.

Hakim stated, "We are not dishonouring Indira Gandhi. Mamata Banerjee is just trying to do something to honour the great poet (Nazrul) and the Congress is opposing it. What the Congress is doing is condemnable.”

Meanwhile, Congress MP Deepa Dasmunshi expressed his strong disagreement over the entire episode. “ The Congress can never tolerate any form of disregard of the veteran leader (Indira Gandhi). We deeply object the state government’s move,” he said.
