New Delhi: Senior Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who is believed to be miffed over his exit from Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, took charge of his new portfolio- Ministry of Science and Technology on Monday. Still speculations are floating around that it’s the harsh stand of former Petroleum Minister Jaipal Redy on the projects of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd. which caused his exit from the ministry.

Reddy is purportedly unhappy over his exit from the ministry which was evident from his absence at the oil ministry’s office when new Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily reached there to take charge.

Reddy’s apparent unhappiness has given enough ammunition to the opposition as well as India Against Corruption to go after the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his government.

Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu clearly said that Reddy was removed from oil ministry at the instance of corporate houses. Going a step further, IAC activist Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Jaipal Reddy is an honest politician who was removed from oil ministry for not bowing down before the demands of corporate houses.

He further alleged that tainted Salman Khurshid’s elevation to the club of top four ministers of Union Government as External Affairs Minister showed that UPA Government is pursuing a policy to punish the honest ministers and reward the corrupt ones.

Notably, Reddy as Petroleum Minister had taken tough stand on decline in natural gas production from RIL’s KG basin D-6 block. The minister had also delayed his nod to stake-sale deal between RIL and British Petroleum. It is also said that Reddy paid price for taking on Reliance Industries Limited over revision of the prices of natural gas produced from KG basin off the Andhra coast.
