New Delhi: Taking full responsibility of the electoral debacle in Uttar Pradesh, state party chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Friday handed over her resignation to Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The party sources said that Gandhi has still to decide over the resignation letter of Joshi.

Earlier, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh owning complete responsibility for the poor performance in the polls had offered his resignation to Gandhi. However, his resignation was refused by the Congress Chairperson.

After the declaration of the poll results, Congress general secretary and star campaigner Rahul Gandhi had taken complete onus of the failure. But the Congress chairperson on the other hand held the wrong selection of candidates in the state as the reason for the debacle.

While talking to the reporters, party spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “Joshi has handed over her resignation to the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and now it is upto her to take further decision in the matter.”

Denying commenting over the role of Digvijay Singh in the party’s poor performance and whether he should step down from his position, Tewari said, “I don’t like giving personal comments from party forums.”
