Mumbai:  'The Last Lear' director approached Subhash Ghai for a Bengali remake of ‘Karz’ in which he wants to play Simi Garewal's role.

Bengali film director Rituparno Ghosh has approached Subhash Ghai to remake his 1980 film ‘Karz’ starring Rishi Kapoor and Simi Garewal.

Rituparno approached Ghai with the idea of remaking the film in Bengali, but also came up with an interesting suggestion. Ritu suggested he plays the female role of Simi in the remake.

A source reveals, "Subhash Ghai was stumped when he heard Ritu's suggestion, his first reaction was of surprise. But the director managed to convince the Showman somehow. This isn't the first time he would be attempting to play another gender. He has portrayed a cross-dressing gay character in ‘Just Another Love Story’ with Raima Sen."

When contacted Ghai confirms that he's been approached with this idea and says, "Ritu is a great director and it would be interesting to watch him in a female role under his own direction of Karz.”
He has already hit the bulls eye by portraying the role of a gay in his Bengali film.

Ritu said, “But I am still contemplating on his proposal as at the moment I am busy releasing his directorial classic ‘Kashmakash’ on May 20."
