Kolkata: The suicide case of computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rahman took a U-turn on Thursday, when a fast track court directed framing of charges of abetment to suicide against industrialist Ashok Todi and three others. Rizwanur, who was married to Todi’s daughter Priyanka, was found dead in September 2007.

Fast track court judge Amit Chattopadhyay on Thursday ordered that Todi, brother-in-law Anil Saraogi and friend Pappu be tried under Section 306 (abetment to suicide), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Court also directed that case should be registered against IPS official and Intelligence Department’s then Deputy Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar and two other officials, Additional Police Commissioner Sukanti Chakraborty and Sub-Inspector Krishnendu Das.

Next hearing in the case will take place on May 16.

It may be noted that Rizwanur married Priyanka Todi on August 18. But, just a month after marrying Todi’s daughter on September 21, Rizwanur’s body was found on the Patipukur railway tracks. Since then the case is being investigated by the CBI on the Calcutta High Court order.
