Lucknow: Terming Uttar Pradesh government as anti-farmer, Rashtriya Lok Dal on Wednesday said that it would stage state-wide protests on November 9 against the delay in announcing sugar cane support price.

"The cane crushing season starts in October but till now the government has not even declared the support price of sugarcane which has agitated the farmers", new state unit president of RLD, Munna Singh Chauhan told reporters in Lucknow.

Chauhan said that his party would stage protests at all district headquarters of the state on November 9 for early declaration of support price as well as for starting the sugar mills at the earliest.

RLD state unit President said that his party would be forced to come on the streets in case the government continued to ignore the interests of farmers .

Criticising the SP government, he said that it has proved to be a failure on all fronts. "In the past few months itself, eight communal riots have taken place in the state including those in Mathura and Faizabad", he said.

Chauhan demanded a judicial inquiry instead of a probe by the lokayukta, into the sale of 21 sugar mills during the BSP government, alleging that the Samajwadi Party was not interested in exposing the scams of the BSP government.
Uttar Pradesh government had yesterday ordered probe by the Lokayukta into the alleged irregularities and corruption in the sale of sugarmills of UP State Sugar Corporation Limited (UPSSCL) during previous Mayawati regime.
