Patna: In an unexpected approach of investments in Bihar by road construction companies, eight companies have shown keen interest in the first phase of the super structure work on the ambitious 21 km long rail cum road bridge (Ganga driveway) over the River Ganga between Digha to Didarganj.

The name of companies are– Larsen and Toubro, Navayuga Engineering, Madhucon group, Patel Engineering, Shapoorji Pallonji Group, Simplex Infrastructure Ltd, Isolex and C & C Construction.

Senior officials of the companies on Thursday along with state government officials visited the site and inspected the alignment of the upcoming bridge. They were accompanied by Road Construction Department chief secretary Pratyay Amrit, Secretary Devnath Prasad and project consultant officials.

Speaking to media, Pratyay Amrit informed that out of 20 km, around 7 km road will run on an elevated platform.

The second phase will take the Ganga driveway to Fatua, a distance of 18 km from Didarganj.

According to sources, this bridge would be the longest rail cum road bridge of the Indian Railways having a length of about 4.5 km.

The Indian Railways has already started the fabrication work of the super structure portion of the bridge at both ends to expedite the early completion of the project. The railways wants to complete the project by December 2012 end at a cost of Rs 1450 crore.
