Civil Aviation Minister Pusapati Gajapati Raju in Narendra Modi’s Cabinet has already dropped hints towards stripping Vadra of his frisking immunity in airports.

On being asked whether Vadra would continue to be in the VIP list and not be checked at airports, Raju said, "Security should be meaningful and not ornamental. It will depend if the Home Ministry feels there is a threat perception, and I am not talking about Vadra, we'll have to see."

Frisking immunity in India is usually enjoyed by important national as well as international dignitaries.

Often, the criteria for granting Vadra this special privilege was questioned and the then Congress-led UPA government said that that since he is accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi, who enjoys SPG cover, Vadra has been granted immunity.

With UPA no longer being at the helm of affairs, things might undergo change.

During campaigning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, had, however, said that there would be no witch-hunting against Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law but the law would take its own course.
