New Delhi: Power systems company Rolls-Royce on Tuesday said it has appointed ex-GE Energy CEO Kishore Jayaraman as President of its Indian and South Asian operations.

Announcing the appointment, the company said Jayaraman will take over the charge from the outgoing Anil Shrikhande with immediate effect.

Commenting on the appointment, Rolls-Royce Director(International) Michael Shipster said: "India is an important market for Rolls-Royce with great potential built on a long and distinguished history across all of our business sectors. In appointing a leader with Kishore's experience in India, we are reinforcing our commitment to this important region."

Prior to joining the company, Jayaraman was the Chief Executive Officer of GE Energy's India business, the company said in statement.

Jayaraman will be responsible for driving forward the group's business activities in India and strengthening its position in the wider region.

"I look forward to building on the strong and long established foundation in India. We want to be a partner in progress with India and I am excited by the opportunity this role presents," Jayaraman said.

In India, Rolls-Royce has 1,350 engines in service across four market -– marine, energy, civil and defence aerospace.

The company has 200 employees in India, besides 700 engineers working on subcontract basis at engineering centres in Bangalore.
