Roorkee: Owing to the protest of 11 trade unions against the “anti-labour” policies, trade worth Rs 60 crores has been affected in Roorkee. Banks could not clear the 2000 cheques worth Rs 20 crores due to the strike.

The LIC and The Telephone Exchanges remained shut across the city. People were unable to pay their LIC premiums and telephone bills due to the strike. Banks were the worst hit as transactions worth Rs 40 crore was affected.

The consumers had to rely on the ATMs as they were unable to carry out transactions in the banks.         

A 24-hour nation-wide strike called by 11 trade unions on Tuesday remained peaceful and evoked a mixed response, but key sectors like banking and transport took a hit in various parts of the country. As per the sources, the one-day nationwide strike has caused a total loss of whopping Rs 10, 000 crore to the public treasury.
