Kolkata, Jan 31 (Jagran News Network): A Kolkata Sessions Court on Monday ruled that La Martiniere’s Principal and three teachers will be charged with abetment of suicide in the Rouvanjit Rawla case.

The court decided that Section 305 of the IPC should be slapped on La' Martiniere School's Principal-Sunirmal Chakraborty and three other teachers after the police had failed to add abetment to suicide as one of the charges against them in their chargesheet.

13-year-old Rouvanjit Rawla hanged himself in February 2010 -- a couple of days after he was caned by his Principal in school for pulling off pranks in the classroom.

Although Chakraborty admitted to the caning and tendered an apology, the school maintained that the two incidents were unrelated.

The principal and teachers named in the case had argued that they should not be charged with abetment of suicide. They were arrested in October last year and then released on bail. Rouvan's father, Ajay, had included the charge of abetment of suicide in his police complaint.

But when the police filed its chargesheet, it accused the teachers of physical assault, arguing that after examining close to 80 witnesses, it could not substantiate that Rouvan had been pushed to his death by what transpired in his school.
