New Delhi: A CAG report has revealed a massive scam worth crores in the allocation of coal mines across the country. According to the CAG report, the government in awarding mining leases bypassed all rules and regulations leading to the loss of whopping Rs 10 lakh crore to the exchequer.

The CAG report has called the scam as the largest in the nation’s history and is estimated to be six times bigger than the 2G scam.

According to the CAG report, coal mines were allocated to 155 companies without any auction. The allocation was carried out in the time period of 2004-09.

The 110-page draft report of CAG is expected to be tabled in Parliament after the Union Budget is passed.

It is to be noted, the Coal Ministry was headed by Shibu Soren as well as the Prime Minister during this period. Therefore, speculations are rife that the Prime Minister may also be dragged into it.

The CAG report has given enough ammunition for the opposition to fire a salvo against the government which is already bogged down by numerous scams.
