New Delhi: Cineyug owner Karim Morani has revealed that he gave Rs 214 crore as bribe to the DMK-owned Kalaignar Television at the behest of former DB Realty Managing Director Shahid Balwa.

In a written statement to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Morani said the money given to Kalaignar TV was at the behest of Balwa, who is now in custody. This statement made by Morani is crucial in the 2G spectrum scam rocking the UPA government.

Investigating agencies had claimed that Rs 214 crore received by the Kalaignar Television was paid by Swan Telecom after it received the 2G licence. However, after the former Telecom Minister A Raja’s resignation and arrest, Kalaignar Television returned the money to Cineyug. The money will be seized by the agencies under the law to prevent money laundering.

Dainik Jagran had earlier reported that how Balwa, after getting the 2G licence on January 10, 2008, had given Rs 214 crore bribe to Kalaignar through Cineyug. The Central Bureau of Investigation has already arrested Balwa.

According to the sources, the CBI could question Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi and wife Dayalu who own 80 per cent of Kalaignar TV.

Apart from this, ED had questioned Spice Telecom owner Dilip Modi. Spice Telecom was one of the companies who received the 2 G licence and later sold it to Idea making crores. The CBI too has interrogated Modi in connection with this case.
