Gwalior: Launching an anti-corruption drive in Madhya Pradesh, the state government would recover Rs 35 lakh from eight Engineers of Water Resources Department (WRD) Sheopur for the poor quality construction of a stap dam.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in 2009 had announced to build a stap dam worth Rs 35 lakh at Larpura gram panchayat in Vijaypur Sub-division.

WRD had been entrusted with the task of constructing the dam across the Kwari River. However, fingers were raised over the performance of WRD team, as the dam got damaged soon after its completion. It is believed that substandard materials were used by the WRD team in the dam construction.

The Rural Engineering Department conducted a probe into the matter and found that cost of the dam did not exceed Rs 10 lakh. Moreover, it also found that substandard materials were in the construction work.

After the investigation, it has been proposed that the entire cost would be recovered from the Engineers. Rs 4.37 lakh and Rs 17 lakh would be recovered from Executive Engineer MP Satyarthi and Assistant Engineer BR Prajapati respectively. Rest of the amount would be recovered from other Engineers involved in the project.
