Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court  that a total of Rs 4.88 crore were spent by the Punjab Congress Committee during 2007 Punjab Assembly election campaign.

Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Punjab, had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging Amarinder’s election to Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2007 general elections from Patiala city constituency. The prime contention of the petitioner is that Amarinder and his party spent more than the expenditure shown in the record during the elections.

Satya Pal Jain, counsel for petitioner, had demanded the balance sheet or the audit report of expenses incurred during the 2007 election campaign.

Instead of submitting the report asked by Jain, the Captain has handed over the details of election expenses.
