New Delhi: Rajya Sabha on Friday broke into laughter when Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien informed the members about leave applications of two members- film actress Rekha and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

When PJ Kurien informed the members about this, the entire scenario turned light-hearted. Samajwadi Party member Naresh Agarwal, apparently in a humorous mood, got up from his seat and said, “Both the members are rarely seen in the House. Won’t it be better to grant them permanent leave?” On hearing this, the entire House broke into laughter.

Rare attendance of the two celebrities- Rekha and Sachin Tendulkar- during Parliament sessions has always been a matter of talk among the members since their nomination by the President to the Upper House.  The two have not yet attended the ongoing Budget session of Parliament for even a single day.

It was informed to the Chair that Sachin would not be present in the House between February 21 and March 7 due to ongoing India-Australia test series. The House granted him leave on the proposal moved by Kurien.
