New Delhi: Describing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as ‘by far the most popular leader in the country’, the latest issue of the RSS mouthpiece Organiser has stated that the BJP should promote Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

The article by Psephologist GVL Narasimha Rao, who is associated with the BJP, has written that Modi has the ability to expand BJP’s vote bank base like Atal Bihari Vajpayee did in the 1990s.

Citing the successes of VP Singh and AB Vajpayee, he said that Modi - as the leader of BJP would benefit the party in UP, and help it win seats even in states like Odisha and Haryana.

Rao has stressed that the NDA is a major political force only in 272 of the Lok Sabha seats, leaving the Left and regional parties as the likely beneficiaries of erosion in Congress' support in the rest of the 545 Lok Sabha constituencies. Rao has further argued that the limitation can be overcome by projecting a strong leader.

The article was published days after Modi was pulled up by BJP mouthpiece Kamal Sandesh for being a man in hurry.
