IPL: Setback for Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid out for 12

New Delhi: In a major setback, Rajasthan Royals lost their first wicket in the form of skipper Rahul Dravid (12) against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Eliminator match at the historic Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Wednesday.

LIVE SCORECARD: RR vs SRH

Rajasthan Royals produced a disciplined bowling performance as they restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to 132 for seven.

All the Royals bowlers did a splendid job as Sunrisers batsmen could never really force the pace during the entire 20 overs save West Indies skipper Darren Sammy (29, 3x6) striking a few lusty blows during the fag end of the innings.

Shikhar Dhawan (33, 39 balls, 3x4) was the other significant contributor although his innings was an uncharacteristic one by his standards as the slowness of the track did not help his cause either.

While Vikramjeet Malik (2/14) provided twin breakthroughs, James Faulkner (1/28) and Siddharth Trivedi (1/18) consistently hit the right length on a track that was totally different from the one on which Chennai Super Kings batsmen ran riot in the Qualifier yesterday.

Portly Himachal Pradesh medium pacer Malik was rewarded for his wicket-to-wicket bowling as he removed Parthiv Patel (1) and Hanuma Vihari (1) off successive overs.

Parthiv closed the face of the bat to a delivery that landed on the good length spot and Sanju Samson, stationed at extra cover, ran backwards to take a tumbling catch.

In his very next over, Malik removed Vihari with a back of the length delivery which climbed on the batsman who offered a simple catch to mid-on fielder Kevon Cooper.

Two down for only three runs, it was skipper Cameron White (31, 28 balls, 5x4), who joined Dhawan as they started the damage control, adding 52 runs for the third wicket in 8.3 overs.

Dhawan, who was a spectator all this while, finally got into the act with a couple of cover driven boundaries – one each of Faulkner and Malik.

White also played a perfect straight drive off Malik apart from a cracking a square cut. But the perennially low and slow Kotla track provided quite a challenge for 'local boy' Dhawan and White as the ball did not come onto the bat. The six overs of Powerplay yielded only 27 runs.

Teams:

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Cameron White (capt), Parthiv Patel, Shikhar Dhawan,Hanuma Vihari, Biplab Samantray, Darren Sammy, Thisara Perera, Karan Sharma, Amit Mishra, Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma.

Rajasthan Royals: Rahul Dravid (capt), Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, Stuart Binny, Brad Hodge, Sanju Samson, Dishant Yagnik, James Faulkner, Kevon Cooper, Siddharth Trivedi and Vikramjeet Malik.

New Delhi: Delhi Lokayukta on Wednesday indicted Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for allegedly misusing government funds for carrying out an advertisement campaign with a ‘political purpose’ ahead of assembly elections in 2008.

Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin recommended to President Pranab Mukherjee to caution Dikshit for the alleged misuse of public funds.

He also recommended to the President to ‘advise’ Dikshit to reimburse either herself or through her party a sum of Rs 11 crore as half the cost of the advertisements in 2008 or any amount the President finds adequate.

The Lokayukta had initiated an inquiry into the matter following a complaint filed by Vijender Gupta, former Delhi BJP President. In his complaint, Gupta had charged Dikshit with abusing her position as Chief Minister by carrying out an advertisement campaign with a view to gaining political mileage in the assembly election in 2008.

He had alleged the government machinery, particularly the Department of Information and Publicity, was instructed to make an elaborate plan to project the Chief Minister in a positive light to gain advantage during election and overcome the anti-incumbency factor.

Lucknow: An Uttar Pradesh policeman was in critical condition on Wednesday after he and a colleague clashed with each other with bamboo sticks in media glare, leaving them bleeding from the face.

Mukund Yadav and Sunil Dixit, both of 10 Provincial Armed Constabullary, were on duty for UP Udhammi Mahasammelan attended by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, had a dispute, which was initially settled, police sources said.

Superintendent of Police Habib ul Hasan identified the policemen as Mukund Yadav and Sunil Dixit, who fought outside the Indira Gandhi Pratishtan where Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was meeting industrialists. The two were from the 10th battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).

Superintendent of Police Habib ul Hasan said that while Head Constable Yadav was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, constable Dixit was in critical condition, with doctors saying his condition was a cause for concern.

While the two hit each other with sticks, other policemen tried to intervene but failed to separate them. It was only when officer Umesh Bahadur Singh reached the spot with a police force that the two could be separated.

It was not immediately clear what provoked the clash. Senior officials of PAC said strict action would be initiated against the two as they had lowered the image of the force in public eye.

Salman Khurshid to undertake four-day visit of Saudi Arabia from May 24

Riyadh: External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will be visiting Saudi Arabia this week for talks with the Saudi leadership on a range of issues, including the controversial 'Nitaqat' law relating to employment, energy security and counter-terrorism cooperation.

Khurshid's four day visit, from May 24-27, would be the first by an Indian External Affairs Minister in the last five years. In 2008, then Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee had visited the Gulf Kingdom.

Khurshid will hold discussions with his Saudi counterpart Prince Saud Al-Faisal on bilateral, regional and international issues and is also expected to call on the leadership of Saudi Arabia, Indian embassy said.

The visit comes at a time when a large number of Indians leaving Saudi Arabia as a result of the country's Nitaqat programme, which is meant to regularize foreign workers.

The 'Nitaqat' law makes it mandatory for local companies to hire one Saudi national for every 10 migrant workers. There has been widespread perception that the new policy will lead to denial of job opportunities for a large number of Indians working there. The Saudi government was implementing the Nitaqat law to cut unemployment in the country.

Over two million Indians are currently working in Saudi Arabia. Last month, an Indian delegation led by Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi had held a meeting with Saudi Arabian Labour Minister Adel Fakieh.

Ahead of Khurshid's visit, Indian Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao on Tuesday met Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister for Interior Dr Ahmed Al Salem at the Ministry of Interior.

They discussed all issues pertaining to the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia, which includes facilities for immigration and 'exit' for Indian nationals approaching the Saudi authorities.

"He has been an inspiration for me, personally. I admire him for the way he deals with his career, how he works," Shruti said.

"Even at this time, he does so much hard work and has so much dedication. He has the same enthusiasm that a newcomer has for his work and that has been very inspiring for me," added the 27-year-old.

Shruti is also impressed with her father's directorial skills and minces no words in praising him for that. "He is a good director. He brings in an actor's point of view very clearly. When you see his film, you know an actor is thinking about how to direct the film," she said.

She doesn't rule out acting in a film directed by her father someday. After doing Bollywood films like ‘Luck’ and ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’, Shruti will soon be seen in two more Hindi projects , ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ and ‘D-Day’.

BCCI chief’s son-in-law linked to spot-fixing scandal

New Delhi: The arrest of Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh in connection with IPL spot-fixing scandal seems to have opened the Pandora’s Box. The phone-call details accessed by the police indicate that BCCI chief N Srinivasan's son-in-law Guru Meiyappan has been closely associated with Vindoo.

Now the police are preparing to summon Meiyappan for questioning. BCCI chief Srinivasan is the owner of Chennai Super Kings and his son-in-law Meiyappan is the Team Principal and CEO. Actor Vindoo was arrested by Mumbai police on Thursday when they learnt about his link with bookies. Vindoo’s arrest is also likely to uncover more dubious links and associations in the spot-fixing mess.

The sources say that investigators have also learnt about Vindoo’s association with four more Bollywood celebrities in this case.

It is important to note that Vindoo was recently spotted with Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi watching an IPL match. Now the police are mulling to approach Sakshi to know if Vindoo tried to get any information from her regarding IPL matches. The cops are also trailing a Bollywood actor and a producer, who allegedly used to fix matches through Vindoo.

Acting on the clues indicating towards the suspicious association of Vindoo with bookies, the Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested him. Mumbai’s Joint Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy said Vindoo was arrested from his Juhu residence as soon as the police learnt about his association with the bookies. Virendra Dara Singh Randhawa alias Vindoo Dara Singh was involved in match fixing and it’s being said that he used to charge 0.25 to 0.50 percent commission to arrange money.

According to sources, Vindoo has admitted his guilt saying he was involved in spot-fixing for the past four years. One more bookie and a Hawala agent were arrested on Tuesday in this connection. The police have registered a case of forgery and conspiracy under several sections of Indian Penal Code. Vindoo, along with three others were later presented at Metropolitan Magistrate MN Saleem’s court. The court sent the actor to police custody for three days till May 24.

Besides this, another bookie Prem Taneja, who is believed to be close to Vindoo, was arrested at Mumbai airport when he was trying to escape to Dubai. On the basis of phone call details, it has been found that Vindoo was in touch with Jupiter and several other bookies.

New Delhi: The Delhi Government on Wednesday sternly told electricity distribution companies that it will not tolerate load shedding in the capital as power is available in surplus.

In the wake of reported load shedding by these companies in the last three days, the Government called a review meeting on Wednesday.

"Principal Secretary (power) has asked the power companies to pull up their socks to ensure uninterrupted supply in this summer season as the availability has been much higher than the peak demand," said an official of the Delhi Government.

He said that the difference between the availability and peak power demand has been hovering between 500 to 800 MW.

"There is no ground for power cuts. The City Government would not tolerate such load shedding," he added.

The Principal Secretary (power) also stated that the load shedding might have been taking place purely on account of technical faults, which are to be taken care by the respective distribution companies.

Words that can kill marriages revealed

New York: Learning the language of marriage takes time and diligence, but saying some words regularly may cause irreparable damage.

Huffington Post came up with five words that are destined to cause damage to your marriage.

The first word is “never,” which implies a sense of hopelessness and finality.

When you use “never,” you’re telling your spouse that they are no good, will never be any good and that there’s no hope for change.

Second is “always,” which implies a sense of rigidity and righteousness.

When you use “always,” you’re telling your spouse that they are wrong, you are right, and that there’s nothing that can be done about it.

It’s also an all-or-nothing phrase, and it does not lend itself to understanding, learning, or healing.

Thirdly “but.” It implies a sense of manipulation and a lack of integrity.

When you use “but,” you negate whatever was said before. It invalidates your message and turns a positive statement into a negative one.

It’s a conjunction that does not lend itself to building trust, credibility and intimacy. Similar words to avoid include “however” and “although.”

Fourth “*#%&.” Use your imagination and fill in the blank and what you’re left with is a vulgar, obscenity-laced attack.

Any way you look at it, attacking your spouse by name-calling will cause irreparable damage.

Doing this regularly will surely destroy your spouse’s soul and kill the marriage. Outright contempt has no place in a marriage.

And lastly “divorce.” Threatening to divorce, suggesting divorce as an option, or accusing your spouse of destroying the marriage will lead to just that.

A divorce is a very serious decision, and using it as a weapon or method of control creates anxiety and despair.
