Lucknow: The RTI officials do not just fail to deliver information to the applicants but also evade from paying the fines levied on them for shying away from their duties. This is the reason why a fine to the tune of Rs 53 lakh on 231 pending cases is still outstanding.

Owing to the carelessness of the officials, the Chief Secretary had to write a letter to Principal Secretaries of the concerned departments and apprise them of the issue.

As the officials failed to deliver the information on time, the Information Commission had to fine the officials. Out of a total amount of Rs 53, 63, 500, the officers managed to pay only Rs 62, 500.

Not only this, the departments have even tried to mislead the Information Commission. It was found that the Department of Administrative Reforms Commission in August had given incomplete messages to the Commission. And after a long hearing the Commission imposed fine on it.

Principal Secretary, Administrative Reforms, Navtej Singh through a letter has asked Chief Secretaries including 39 officers to submit the status report on the collection of fine.
