Sustained demand for the dollar from importers also weighed on the local currency but a higher opening in the domestic equity market limited the rupee's losses, forex dealers said.

The rupee had slid 8 paise to end at 61.83 on Friday due to month-end dollar demand from importers and some banks.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 209 points, or 0.71 percent, at 29,570.50 in morning trade on Friday.
