Besides, increased demand for the dollar from importers and a lower opening in the domestic equity market weighed on the rupee, forex dealers said.

The rupee had ended higher by 9 paise at 63.85 against the American currency on Monday's trade on persistent selling of dollars by banks and exporters on hopes of resumption in foreign fund inflows amid rise in equity market.    

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell 261.62 points, or 0.95 percent, at 27,245.68 in morning trade on Tuesday.
