Mumbai: The rupee rose marginally by 3 paise to 53.02 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Thursday on selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.

Besides, a higher opening in the equity market also supported the rupee, forex dealers said.

They, however, added that euro's weakness against the US currency overseas capped the rupee's gains.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex recovered by 26.55 points, or 0.14 per cent, to 18,657.65.

The rupee had lost 33 paise to close at 53.05 in yesterday's trade.
