The rupee had closed 3 paise lower at 66.53 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange yesterday on fag-end demand for the American currency.

Dealers attributed the rupee's fall to increased demand for the greenback and the latter strengthening overseas.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell 43.81 points, or 0.17 percent, to 25,241.56 in early trade.
