Besides, a higher opening in the domestic equity market and strengthening of other currencies against the dollar overseas also supported the rupee, forex dealers said. The rupee had dropped 17 paise to close at 60.31 against the dollar in Thursday's trade.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex climbed to a new record-high by surging 146.07 points, or 0.66 percent, to 22,360.44 in morning trade Friday.
