Forex dealers said strengthening of euro and yen against the dollar overseas also supported the rupee.

The rupee had gained eight paise to close at 54.28 against the dollar Thursday’s trade.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index Sensex fell by 21.26 points, or 0.11 per cent, to 18,771.61 in early trade.
