Besides, a higher opening in the domestic equity market supported the rupee but weakening euro and yen against the American currency, capped the gains, forex dealers said.

The rupee had lost 36 paise to close at 62.93 against the dollar on Thursday as indications of an imminent tapering by the Federal Reserve strengthened the US currency. Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex rose by 108.91 points, or 0.54 percent, to 20,337.96.
