Moscow: Russian researchers, who have been drilling 3700 meters of ice in Antarctica for last twenty years, will soon reach an underground lake that may disclose many evolution secrets.

In an interview, Polar researcher Artur Chilingarov revealed this information and said that he too will join the team "to officially register a major scientific and geographic discovery."

"For twenty years our Polar researchers have been drilling the ice crust under which a lake is located. At present several dozen meters remain to be drilled," he said.

Chilingarov said the lake is a million years old and "its water samples can provide answers to numerous evolution issues."

"It will be a major achievement of our science," he said.
