Guntur(AP), Jan 24 (Agencies): Noted scholar and philosopher Prof K Sachidananda Murthy passed away here on Monday at a private hospital. He was 87.

A recipient of the 'Padma Vibhushan', Murthy authored over 50 books on philosophy, including the magnum opus 'Reason and Rationality in the Adyatha Vedanta'.

Murthy, who hailed from Sangam Jagarlamudi in Guntur district, was a former vice-president of the University Grants Commission and also an ex-vice-chancellor of the Sri
Venkateswara University, in Tirupati.

In recognition of his erudition and eminence, Acharya Nagarjuna University started the Kotha Sachidananda Murthy Centre for Studies in Afro-Asian Philosophy.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed grief over the death of Murthy and said, in his death, we have lost a great scholar, philosopher and writer.

He also conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.

Condoling his death, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu said, "Murthy's death is a great loss to the field of academics."
