New Delhi, Jan 25 (Jagran News Network): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is almost certain to be honoured with India’s highest civilian award-Bharat Ratna making him the first ever sportsperson to receive it.

According to sources, the Prime Minister Office has recommended his name but there are some reservations as he is considered too young for the highest civilian award in the country,

"We have strongly recommended Sachin’s name for the Bharat Ratna, and we should know the result in a few days,” said Member of Parliament Sanjay Nirupam.

However, Sachin stayed away from the issue, saying Bharat Ratna is the dream of every Indian.

The demand to decorate the batting maestro with the Bharat Ratna was first made way back in the year 2003 by the Shiv Sena and seconded by the then Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Murli Manohar Joshi.
