Jalandhar:  In order to return to power in Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is going to inherit the political legacy from his father Parkash Singh Badal, has decided to proceed with party ideology in the Assembly polls.

Junior Badal has strived hard to keep intact its traditional vote bank by mentioning provident funds and debt waiver for farmers in his party manifesto. Sukhbir does not want to take any risk in Assembly polls.

The rural Punjab has been the fiefdom for the SAD which had to win the urban seats for coming to power in the state. That is why Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had made alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party. The SAD-BJP alliance stormed to power in 2007 Assembly polls.

Sukhbir started to increase his political base in urban areas too. On the other hand the erosion in his traditional rural vote bank started posing a serious threat to the party. Consequently, the party took it seriously.
