Allahabad:  At a time when the government is spending crores on beefing up the facilities and arrangements at the ongoing Maha Kumbh mela, sadhus and saints of various orders are making profits out of the facilities provided to them free of cost by the government.

In a shocking revelation, many sadhus were found making commercial use of lands and other facilities provided to them at the Kumbh mela site free of cost by the government.

The Uttar Pradesh government has spent over Rs 12 crores so far on providing land and other facilities to the sadhus engaged in religious activities at the Maha Kumbh mela.

Interestingly, the illegal businesses of these sadhus are flourishing unabated and the government has not taken any cognizance of such activities. The sadhus, in the name of their trusts, are advertising about their businesses on the internet and offering lucrative deals to woo the pilgrims.

They are charging the pilgrims hefty tariffs ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 25,000 for a night. The tariff is expected to cross Rs 40,000 per night on Mauni Amavasya on February 10.

Besides providing accommodation, these trusts are also offering other secondary facilities like fooding, laundary, medical facility, room heaters and air conditioners against some charges. It is noteworthy that these facilities are provided to the sadhus for free by the government.
