Aligarh: The Sports Authority of India has sanctioned a grant of rupees 5 crore for laying a synthetic astroturf at the Aligarh Muslim University.

The secretary of the AMU games committee, Professor Tariq Mansoor said that the institution is only the second university in the country to have an astroturf for hockey.

Lauding the effort of former India stars Zafar Iqbal and Govinda, both alumni of the University, for helping AMU in getting this facility, Mansoor said that the laying of astroturf would help in playing a traditional role of producing world-class hockey players in the country.
