Durgapur/Veerbhum/Vardhman: Announcing a string of sops, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here on Saturday said the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) will invest Rs 20,000 crore in Vardhaman and adjoining areas.

On the last day of her visit to South Bengal, Banerjee said, “I want to make WB a developed state. For this, I myself will review the development work being carried out in the various districts at every three months.”

Banerjee also took stock of the development work with the administrative officials in Vardhman and Birbhum districts.

“Asansol-Durgapur is an industrial area. The commissioner office has been set up here to check offences in the area. Later this area will be made a district,” said the CM.

A polytechnic college will be set up at Durgapur so that the industrial town can be developed in line with Haldia, added Banerjee.

Helipad service is being started to link the area with Malda, Balurghat, Haldia.

CM also instructed the officials to ensure the supply of fertilizers to the farmers.

Rs 26 crore will be earmarked for the development of 17 village panchayats of Birbhum said the Trinamool Congress leader. The office will be made for the development of minorities.
