Haridwar: The saint community across the country has jumped into the swelling ranks of supporters of yoga guru Baba Ramdev in his ‘Satyagraha’. Expressing solidarity for Ramdev’s agitation against black money and corruption, Akhil Bharitya Sant Samiti on Thursday held protest here and raised slogans against the Union government.
The community will perform ‘Shuddhi-Buddhi yajna’ on Friday so that better sense prevails over the UPA government.
The members of Samiti, led by president Satyavratanand gathered at Bhupatwala and slammed the government’s action of crushing Ramdev’s agitation. Terming the action of the government as the ‘murder of democracy’, the saint community raised slogans against the Centre.
“The midnight police crackdown on Ramdev agitation over bringing back black money and ending corruption, does not suit a democratic country like India. This way, government has mirrored its dictatorship,” said Satyavratanand.
“The saint community is with Baba Ramdev and will support him to make his campaign a success,” he added.
Vice-President of the Samiti, Vinod Giri said, “It is unfortunate that the campaign associated with the public interest is being suppressed this way. The whole episode has left the government red faced.”
