Grabbing a strong foothold in the industry with his first film ‘Udaan’, Rajat Barmecha is an actor who needs no introduction. Rajat, who is presently based in Mumbai, hails from Yojna Vihar in East Delhi and is a typical Delhi boy whose heart still beats for the capital city.
True sports lover
I have always been a true sports lover. I have spent most of my time in Sarita Vihar, my maternal grandmother’s place. Yamuna Sports Complex is nearby and everyone in my family is the member of this sports club. We used to go there for bowling and rock climbing. We used to play pool there. I can never forget those moments which I spent with my cousins.
Those enjoyable days
I went to Bal Bharti School in Brij Vihar. I met my two best friends, Gucchi and Minku, there. We three were a group. We used to bunk classes and go to Centerstage Mall and GK 1 M-Block Market. There is a We 2 lounge in the M block market which was our favourite. There is a Penguin and Caventor shop in Surajmal market where we had momos. Our teachers and principal were fed up with us but our results used to make them happy as we always scored good marks.
A person on a bicycle used to sell chole- kulche at Rs 6 per plate just outside our colony. I have never had such tasty chole-kulche in Mumbai. I also love the chlole-kulche served at Chandni Chowk. My cousin has a diamond shop in Chandni Chowk. Whenever I used to go to meet him, I never missed the chance to gorge on the yummy parathas there.
I am a spiritual person
Six years back, I bought one ‘kada’ from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara for Rs 10 which I always wear. There is a temple of Sai Baba in Yojna Vihar, near my home. Whenever I go to Delhi, I pay a visit to the temple. In fact my mom goes to that temple every day. I feel at peace when I visit these places.
Delhi has become more beautiful
Recently I went to Delhi to attend the marriage of the editor of my film ‘Udaan’. I realised that Delhi has changed a lot, especially after Commonwealth Games. En route to home from airport I got confused many times. Metro has reached every corner of Delhi.
