New Delhi: The Central establishment seems to be on back foot before the demand of employees of coal companies. The government has decided to give Performance Related Payment (PRP) to coal company officials that could increase their salaries. The government is also mulling over their promotions.

In this connection, Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal held a meeting with Chairman of Coal India Ltd NC Jha including company’s secretary and various representatives of Coal Ministry before Diwali. The Coal Ministry is understood to have given nod for increasing the salaries of employees on the condition of achieving target of coal production for current fiscal.

The Ministry has asked the coal companies to change its present norms of promotion. Management is also planning to call a board meeting next month in-order to pass the proposal.

The government has also decided to consider the pension hike, which will benefit at least16, 000 employees.

Inspired by government’s decision, they are targeting 45.1 crore tonnes of coal production during the current fiscal whereas the government’s target stands at 44.7 crore tonnes a year.
