Los Angeles, Jan 10 (Agencies): Hollywood star Salma Hayek has joined hands with TV network ABC to develop a miniseries, based on the Gregory Maguire best seller 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West'.

The story, which also inspired a successful Broadway musical, will be told in an eight-hour miniseries and will be produced by Hayek and her partner Jose Tamez through their Ventanarosa Prods and ABC Studios.

The project is in the early stages of development, so it's unclear whether Hayek will also star in Wicked, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Erik Jendersen, who was a producer on HBO's miniseries Band of Brothers, is writing the script.

Hayek has previously produced 'Ugly Betty' for the network.
