Kanpur: In more trouble to the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise Khurshid have come under the scanner after a scam was reported against them.

The report exposed a scam to the tune of Rs 71.50 lakh, in which the Union Ministry for Social Welfare and Empowerment had granted the whopping amount to the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, headed by the law minister for distributing tricycles and hearing aids to the disabled in 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Also, the then Tehsildar and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) have denied signing on the list comprising number of hearing aids and prosthesis aids, that were to be distributed in Kaimganj in Farrukhabad.

Notably, Khurshid is the president and his wife Louise Khurshid is the project director of the trust.

The report states that the Union ministry for social welfare and empowerment had been hinted about this in May 2011, but no one sought an inquiry.
The ministry had asked the UP government to probe into the activities of the trust.
