Informed sources said the announcement followed a Congress decision not to put up candidates against party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in Mainpuri and Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav in Kannauj.
The Congress president will file her nomination papers from Rae Bareli on Wednesday.
Whereas, the BJP has fielded Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Agarwal against Sonia Gandhi and actor-politician Smriti Irani as its candidate to take on Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said his party would not let the BJP succeed in its agenda of making Narendra Modi the country’s Prime Minister.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, who met the representatives of Sunni Ulema Council, said that he had saved Babri Mosque in his regime and had also advocated formation of Federation of India to save the Constitution and the country’s secular character.
