Indore: The National Investigative Agency (NIA) probing into the Samjhauta Express blast inspected the forest of Dewas district where the main accused in the case Kamal Chauhan received training.

On Monday morning a team of NIA reached Indore along with the prime suspect Kamal Chauhan who was arrested from Depalpur on February 12. The team reached Dewas district via Bagli forests route, which was used by Chauhan for the training and implementation of criminal conspiracy.

It needs to be mentioned that on February 14, Chauhan told reporters that he had planted bombs on the Samjhauta Express. The February 2007 blasts close to Diwana railway station near Haryana’s Panipat town killed 68 people, most of them Pakistanis.
During the inspection, Kamal took NIA personnel to the same location where trial of suitcase bomb took place. Slain Sunil Joshi, absconding Sandeep Dange and Ramji Kaalsangra gave training to Kamal Chauhan, Amit alias Ashwin Chauhan along with two other members. Before implementing the final plan, two suitcase containing bombs were blasted in the Dewas forest.

NIA on Monday formally arrested Lokesh Sharma, already in judicial custody in connection with the Samjhauta train bombing case, for his alleged role in the 2008 Malegaon blast.

Sharma was produced before the special MCOCA court of Y D Shinde who remanded him to NIA custody till March nine. The special court had issued a production warrant against the accused on February 23.

The agency said Sharma needs to be questioned in connection with the September 29, 2008, Malegaon blast in which six people were killed.
