Moga (Punjab): Releasing its Common Minimum Programme, the People Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal blew the poll bugle of Sanjha Morcha for the upcoming assembly polls. The Morcha launched Izzat Sambhal (Save Punjab's dignity) Yatra from Dhudike village, the birthplace of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai, here on Sunday.

The Morcha is a coalition of Punjab Peoples Party, CPI, CPM and SAD (Longowal) and is headed by Manpreet Singh Badal.

Launching the yatra, Manpreet said, "Our 16-point Common Minimum Programme (CMP) is an outline to bring radical economic, social and political reforms and to cleanse the corrupt and inefficient political system in the state."

"The Morcha's policies and programmes are aimed to give serious considerations to various issues affecting Punjab, including education, health, human development, poverty, agriculture and environment," the former Punjab Finance Minister said.

Besides Manpreet, former Chief Minister Surjeet Singh Barnala, CPM leader Parkash Karat and CPI leaders A B Bardhan and Joginder Dayal were among others who attended the first political conference of the Morcha.

Jaswant Singh Kamal, renowned Punjabi author and Sahitya Akademi Award winner who played a significant role in the formation of the Morcha, was also present and addressed the gathering.

After announcing the 16-point CMP, Manpreet Singh flayed the Centre for putting the burden on people through inflation.
"The people living below poverty line will be given basic food at controlled prices. We will also make Punjab debt free, and formulate policies and strategies to combat various issues in the agriculture sector,” Manpreet said, adding their wrong policies had brought the state under debt of Rs 78,000 crore.
The SAD-BJP government in the state had completely failed to serve the cause of weaker sections of society, the CPI veteran AB Bardhan said.

The leaders said if the Morcha comes to power in the state, it would bring a strong and an effective anti-graft bill.

Advocating Lokpal Bill, Manpreet added, “When Sanjha Morcha comes into power, it will make all those agencies accountable which are causing hindrance in passing of Lokpal.”
