"We will now hit the streets with this demand and demands for action against other ponzi companies as also refund of money to the cheated depositors," Mishra said.

Mitra was arrested by the CBI after five hours of interrogation at the Salt Lake CGO complex in Kolkata at around 11 AM.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made around the CGO complex housing the CBI office.
The special crime branch of CBI probing the Saradha scam, had served summons on Mitra last month to appear before the agency for questioning.
Mitra had taken ill and was admitted to a private nursing home. Later, he was admitted to the state-run SSKM Hospital from where he was released on November 26.

Soon after thearrest, Banerjee termed the arrest of Mitra by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
as 'illegal and unconstitutional'.

Crticising the arrest, West Bengal minister Subrata Mukherjee also said Mitra's arrest was politically motivated.

''BJP is doing politics of vindictiveness,'' Mukherjee said.

Mukherjee further asked that how can the state government and Assembly Speaker be kept in the dark before the arrest of a state Cabinet Minister.
