The body of Sunaam Hidma (36), Sarpanch of Golapalli village panchayat, was recovered from the outskirts of the village on Wednesday morning, Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police Hitesh Rathod said.

Hidma was reportedly abducted on March 7 by Naxals from his native place under Golapalli police station limits along with 5-6 other villagers of nearby areas, he added.

After getting information this morning, security forces were rushed to the spot and the body was brought to Sukma for post mortem, he explained.

Prima facie it appears that Hidma was beaten to death. The exact cause of the incident was being ascertained, he asserted, adding that police personnel have been mobilised in the region to nab the assailants.

According to police sources, the other 5-6 villagers abducted along with the Sarpanch are still believed to be in captivity.

When asked about the other abducted villagers, the ASP assured, "There were no confirmed reports of abduction of other villagers and investigation was on in this connection."
