Srinagar: A sarpanch in Baramulla district of north Kashmir was injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire at him on Sunday evening, police said.

He suffered a superficial injury and was discharged after first aid."Gunmen shot and injured Gulam Ahmad Bhat, sarpanch of Bomai village on the outskirts of Sopore town on Sunday evening," Sopore Superintendent of Police, Syed Imtiyaz Hussain told.

"He sustained a bullet injury in his arm and was shifted to the hospital where doctors said he had suffered a superficial gunshot injury and was discharged after first aid, added the SP.

"The incident comes soon after separatist guerrillas ambushed and killed four local policemen in Hygam village of Baramulla on Friday.
