Film: Satya 2

Director: Ram Gopal Verma

Cast: Puneet Singh Ratna, Sharwanand, Anaika Soti, Aradhna Gupta, Mahesh Thakur

The film was originally scheduled to release on October 25, but it was delayed due to issues cropped up between Varma, and one of the producers of the film, Arun Sharma.

"Satya 2" has been made at the cost of Rs15 crore, according to sources. The hype around the film has been built up for a long time.

It was touted to be a sequel to Varma's grand success of 1998 film "Satya". But the filmmaker has emphasized several times that the new film is not a sequel. He has stressed on the fact that the film will stand apart from the other gangster dramas as here the protagonist will “reinvent the underworld”.

Considering as Varma's last gangster film, the movie will see debutant actor Puneet Singh in the lead role of a corporate gangster. It will also introduce two new faces - Anaika Soti and Aradhana Gupta.

The music of the film is varied with the promotional track being inspired by the theme song of Hollywood film "The Godfather".

Story line: It is the story of Satya (Puneet Singh Ratn), a man without a past, comes to Mumbai aiming to refashion the underworld.  If 'Satya' was a story of a man who came in 1998 and shaped the then existing underworld, 'Satya 2' is about another man who comes in 2013 to reinvent the underworld.

This is a futuristic film not in terms of science fiction but in terms of that there's no precedent for the protagonist of 'Satya 2'. Satya starts a new underworld company based on his study of the mistakes of all the earlier dons and also on the ways he develops to deal with the modern day policing methods.

'Satya 2' is about a man whose thinking starts where all the earlier real life dons like Dawood Ibrahim's and Chota Rajan's thinking ended," Varma had shared on Twitter once.

Director’s cut

Varma, who explored the Mumbai underworld as a subject for his 1998 crime thriller "Satya", says its sequel explores a new kind of underworld which he believes can spring up anytime.

"Underworld is no longer the same as it was in the period of 1997-2004. But then something else comes... (when) you think that something is completely gone and will not happen again, that is when it comes back," the 51-year-old said.

"A unique kind of underworld can come now which will completely make the other underworld look like nothing. That's the point (of the film)," he added.

Comparing Satya with the Satya 2, the director said, “Satya was a man who came in 1998, got into the underworld and died... 'Satya 2' is about a man who comes in 2013 to reinvent the underworld.”
