New Delhi: Bollywood’s Mr perfectionist, Aamir Khan in his show “Satyamev Jayate” on Sunday highlighted the plight of the differently abled persons’ trauma and apathy of the system.

The show started with the parachute dive of a physically challenged. The boy talked vehemently on the present indifferent system in the country which does not support physically challenged. He quoted Bhagat Singh’s famous statement “Bahre ko sunane ke liye dhamake ki jaroorat hoti hai” and emphasised on the need to change the system. He also talked about his educational success and explained how his abroad alma mater handled his disabilities. He also had the courage to say that it is not my disability rather it is the disability of our system to handle us.   

Aamir also put onus on the fundamental requirements of physically challenged persons and talked in favour of protecting their rights.

Aamir was successful in bringing principal, trustees of different schools and colleges all on the same platform to address the issue.  

The successes of physically challenged people were shown and people with different disabilities were interviewed. Everyone looked agitated with the present system and advocated the immediate need to change the way it is looked at present.

It is was quoted by Aamir that in a survey conducted by the World Bank in 2007, it was inferred that almost 50 percent of Indians believe the common reason for becoming physically challenged are sins committed in past life. But, it was mocked and ridiculed by one and all present in the show.

During the discussions, it was also brought to public notice that there was no government data available on physically challenged till 2001 while almost all developed nations have the statistics of physically challenged citizens. However, for the first time in 2001 census, physically challenged were included.   

Any initiative to support the lives of physically challenged was lauded with open hearts. In one such example, a special school dedicated for physically challenged in New Delhi was shown. 

An e-learning content company based in Ahmedabad was also shown which has around 70 percent of its employees physically challenged.

With the high five note towards the end of the show, Aamir quotes optimism, determination as the quintessential abilities to get success and to overcome any obstacles in life.

Aamir names his show on “Satyamev Jayate” which is written on the national emblem. Satyamev Jayate shows focuses on social taboos, issues  and aims to better the society. In each show, Aamir raises a common issue and shows the common man how to handle the issue. A national rage that the show has already become in first few shows, today’s show focused on lives of physically challenged in the country.

Aamir always had sympathy towards the physically challenged and has given a popular hit “Taare Zameen Par” which was directed by him.
