According to reports, the woman was also fined 20,000 Saudi Riyal and handed down 70 lashes under the Saudi Anti-Cyber Crime Law, which prevent anyone defaming others using computer or telephone.

According to the law, a person who commits, defames or insults a person through any means of information technology devices,"shall be subject to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year and a fine not exceeding SR 500,000 or to either punishment."

The incident was brought to the court after the man argued with the accused who admitted that she had insulted him.

However, the identity of the woman is yet to revealed.

In a similar incident in the Red City of Jeddah, two women were subjected to 10 days in police custody and 20 lashes for insulting each other on WhatsApp last year.
