Ahmedabad: Amid growing support within the BJP for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s candidature for the Prime Minister’s post, now the speculations are high about who will succeed Modi in the state if he moves to central politics after next general elections.

Modi has fielded two of his trusted lieutenants- Minister of State Saurabh Patel and Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel- from safer seats of state assembly by changing their constituencies. It is being presumed that Modi may nominate any one of them as his successor in the state politics before moving to national politics.

Anandiben Patel has been shifted from her current seat of Patan to Ghatlodia and Saurabh Patel from Botad to Akota purportedly in a bid to make their victory certain with a handsome margin. It is being speculated that more than a dozen cabinet colleagues of Modi are most likely to lose this time, but their constituencies were not changed despite their pleadings.

Anandiben Patel, 71, has old age related ailments. Amit Shah, another trusted lieutenant of the Chief Minister is facing legal problems in Sohrabuddin case, so his chances are bleak.

In this scenario, Saurabh Patel is being seen as the most possible successor of Narendra Modi.
