Bhopal: The much awaited ' Beti Bachao Abhiyaan' (Save the girl child campaign) will commence from October 5 in Madhya Pradesh. With a view to create awareness among the masses, the campaign will kick-start with the felicitation ceremony of 1100 girls at the residence of Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Addressing press conference, Chauhan mentioned about the poor sex ratio of the state. He said that it is important to gauge the seriousness of the matter, otherwise by 2050 around 2 crore 80 lakh boys will remain unmarried, which will affect the foundation of social system.

The Chief Minister apprised about the latest survey which revealed that male-female sex ratio has fluctuated more in urban areas than in rural areas. “In Urban areas the dip in female count is worrisome. In few districts there are 850 girls against 1000 boys. Out of 50 districts, the male female count in 9 districts is disturbing."

He laid stress on the compliance of Pre Conception Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. Chauhan said it is compulsory to stick to the norms of the act which aims to curb the rampant female foeticide.
